When it became clear that the Trinidad brewery needed to expand to keep up with the high demand for our products, the Caribbean Development Company(CDC) headed one hundred and sixty-six kilometres North and a little to the left.
Grenada Breweries Limited was established in 1960 and is licensed to produce Carib Lager Beer, Guinness Foreign Extra Stout, Shandy Carib, Ginseng-Up (non-alcoholic), Maxi Malt, Vita Malt, Malta Carib, Ting Grapefruit Beverage and Juicy Cool beverages. Carib, Stag, Mackeson, Shandy Carib and Ginseng are exported to five regional markets. Every beverage is made without a single deviation from the standard of quality set by the Trinidad Brewery. It also distributes Pepsi, 7 Up, Mountain Dew, Slice and Smirnoff Ice.
The Grenada brewery operates on over three and a half acres of land in Grand Anse with over 150 employees who work with state-of-the-art equipment. It produces over 750,000 cases of beverages annually.
The ownership history of the brewery is an interesting one. In 1981, Guinness PLC, currently a member of the Diageo group, purchased the majority shareholding in the Company and in 2002, the majority shares of the Company were purchased by the ANSA McAL group from Diageo.
