Carib Brewery

Carib Brewery

This is how it all began; this is the heart of our history. Sir Gerald Wight, founder of the Caribbean Development Company, wanted to ensure that the production process, which was focused on the European-Continental method with our own twist, was mastered before the company’s flagship beverage, Carib Lager Beer was sold in 1950. We still produce the perfect draft lager because our recipe includes the best ingredients, unwavering quality and constant innovation.

Today Carib Brewery Limited boasts a portfolio that includes Beer, Malt, Stout and Soft Drinks. We produce Carib Lager Beer, Carib Light, Stag Lager Beer, Polar Beer, Mackeson Stout, Ginseng-Up (nonalcoholic) Malta Carib, Smalta, Smalta Smiles and Guinness – over 1,200,000 hectolitres of product every year.

Our acute insight into what our consumers enjoy, inspired us to form partnerships with international companies such as Heineken International B.V., Royal Unibrew, Ginseng Up Corporation and Diageo. As a result of these partnerships, we produce Heineken, Guinness Stout, Ginseng Up and Smirnoff Ice under license for local and export consumption.

When it became clear that the Trinidad brewery needed to expand to keep up with the intense demand for our products, the Caribbean Development Company headed one hundred and sixty-six kilometres North and a little to the left.

Grenada Breweries Limited was established in 1960 and is licensed to produce, Carib Lager Beer, Carlsberg Lager, Guinness Foreign Extra Stout, Shandy Carib, Ginseng-Up (non-alcoholic), Maxi Malt, Vita Malt, Malta Carib, Ting (grapefruit beverage) and Juicy Cool beverages. Carib, Stag, Mackeson, Shandy Carib and Ginseng are exported to five regional markets. Every beverage is made without a single deviation from the standard of quality set by the Trinidad Brewery. It also distributes Pepsi, 7 Up, Mountain Dew, Slice and Smirnoff Ice.

The Grenada brewery operates on over three and a half acres of land in Grand Anse with over one hundred and fifty employees who work in a laboratory and with equipment that are state-of-the-art. It produces over 750,000 cases of beverages annually.

The ownership history of the brewery is a colourful tale. In 1981, Guinness PLC, currently a member of the Diageo group, purchased the majority shareholding in the Company and in 2002, the majority shares of the Company were purchased by the ANSA McAL group from Diageo.

Also in 1960 and even further North, the St Kitts Brewery Limited was established. In 1997, the name of the company was changed to what it is today, Carib Brewery (St. Kitts & Nevis) Limited. It is the country’s leading alcoholic beverages manufacturer with over 110 employees and is fully automated.

The brewery manufactures and distributes Carib Lager, Stag Lager, Skol Lager, Guinness Stout, Mackeson Stout, Royal Extra Stout, Vita Malt, Giant Malt, Smalta, Ting Grapefruit beverage, Peardrella, Cidrella, Ginseng Up, Juicy Beverages, Carlsberg Beer, Smirnoff Ice and British American Tobacco products (BAT- Cigarettes).

Like its sister breweries, Carib Brewery (St Kitts & Nevis) is committed to supporting youth development and various sporting, cultural and community activities.
